Why Yoga Asana?

Yoga is a life path. One of many. Each of us learns differently. I teach yoga Asana as the practice of it has taught me much and I learn best through my body…better than my brain! I find that the experiential aspect of asana has helped me to imbibe some of yoga’s more philosophical/cerebral teachings in a fun and profound way. Asana has supported me to better understand what we study as “knowledge” to become embodied wisdom. That said, it is important we don’t take ourselves too seriously!

Might I be a teacher for you?

I am not a drill sergeant. Alright, a task-master maybe. I don’t teach “fluff n’ fold” yoga, nor do I teach hot, fast yoga. If you are wanting to go to yoga to “tune out,” I am not the right teacher for you.

If you are wanting to “tune in,” then maybe so. This may not sound so great, but I am only interested in teaching students who understand that yoga IS a path, not just an aerobic workout where you compete to see who can do the poses better and who’s wearing the latest whatever…blah, blah, blah. I hope to do my very best to guide you to your inner guru.

I teach a method of yoga that works in a profound way to align the physical body to awaken our awareness so that we may better experience a state of moving meditation while supporting the body to stave off injury and promote healing! I have been teaching this system for over 12 years, and am so grateful to my teachers. This method has been a blessing to my life, and one which I share enthusiastically and assuredly because it works!!

We also practice pranayama (breath work) and rajas yoga (meditation) in coordination with asana. It feels so wonderful.

What might I expect on the Path?

Yoga is an opportuity to balance your being. Where you are weaker, you can strengthen. Where you are tight, you can soften. That’s not just only in your body, but in your heart and mind too.

You must be willing to expand your perspective of yourself and the world around you. You must be willing to confront your own mental and physical limitations to attain greater freedom in your mind, more love in your heart, and a happier state of being in your body.

That said, there is no hurry to get anywhere, no “goal,” but to become more present within each breath. And, by doing so, perhaps marvel at the unveiling of the divine goodness within. Might a couple of “monsters” come out of the closet? Very likely…but, you will be more steady in your body, clear in your mind, and open in your heart to meet them, and feel wonderful for having had the courage and ability for having done so!

Moksha is the word for liberation. Your steady practice will support a steadily evolving state of liberation through yoga. You can feel more at ease in your own self and such that your heart is more radiant! Better able to give and to receive. Remember…
